Nisrine Machaka Houri is a nature lover and an environmentalist who has specialized in Biodiversity conservation and Management. Her love of nature transformed a hobby into a profession and now she is undertaking the study of plant biodiversity in various areas of Lebanon.

September 2013- June 2014: Postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Chelsea Specht, Department of Plant and Microbial Biology, University of California, Berkeley.

2013: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biodiversity Conservation and Management from the University of Reading.

2006: PG Diploma in Biodiversity Conservation and Management from the University of London.

2001: B.S. with distinction in Interior Design from Lebanese American University - Beirut.

2012: - Participated and successfully completed the IUCN Red List Training Workshop held on 30 October-2 November in Istanbul, Turkey and organized by IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature.

- Participated in the FP7 training workshop organized within INCAM project by the National Council for Scientific Research-Lebanon and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari-Italy.  National Council for Scientific Research, Beirut, Lebanon, 16 March 2012.

 

2011: - Participated in a training for Red List assessment according to IUCN criteria and guidelines in Kew Botanic Gardens, UK; 21-23 November.

- Ecology Environmental Impact Assessment based on BREEAM standards for Eco-consulting as a team member in IBSAR.


2010: - Member of a consultancy team (IBSAR, AUB) to identify “Important Plant Areas in Lebanon” with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
